Rebuilding Together Richmond seeks donations of time, materials

Rebuilding Together Richmond will be in Jackson Ward on Saturday, Sept.29, to work on five houses. RTR executive direcor Amy King is asking for help in obtaining donations of time and materials. Rebuilding Together Richmond is seeking in-kind donations of time and materials. Please consider helping out in any way, large or small. They are specifically looking for:

Labor & Contractor support

  • Foremen/superintendents to consult with volunteer leaders regarding individual tasks – advice on resources & materials required, tools/special equipment needs, considerations re: historic district overlays ( now through event day – on an as needed basis)

  • Carpenters experienced with tongue and groove porch repair; carpenters for misc jobs

  • Skilled trades (plumbers, electricians, hvac, roofers) – to participate with task assessments prior to event and to be on hand for support for event day

  • Carpet installers

  • Drywall/plaster repair work

  • Appliance installation – repair/replace

  • Resource to lead metal handrail repair/replacement

Materials (sample list)

  • Appliances – gently used or new

    • Two or three refrigerators (1 large enough for 6 person family)

    • Dishwasher

    • Washing machine

    • Note: we have several clothes dryers on hand

    • Window a/c units

  • Tongue & groove stock for porch repairs

  • Metal handrail supplies

  • Durable carpet/padding

  • Interior and exterior paint and painting supplies

  • Lever style faucets

  • Lever style doorknobs (exterior)

  • Weatherization kits

  • Co detectors, smoke detectors (5 each)

  • First aid kits (6)

  • Treated lumber for gates/shed doors

  • Plywood for various repairs

  • Vinyl floor covering/luan and supplies

  • Batteries for smoke detectors, remotes

  • Interior/exterior lighting fixtures

  • Caulk

  • Personal protection – disposable overalls, gloves, dust masks

  • Landscaping supplies – weed killer, bags of mulch, low-maintenance shrubs
