this is only a test…

Tomorrow VCU will conduct a test of emergency sirens on both the Monroe Park and MCV Campuses. The sirens will begin at 12:00 noon and will sound for one minute and then sound a 30 second “all clear” even tone as part of a full test of VCU’s multi-level emergency communications system. [via]

The emergency communications system includes text messaging, desktop computer alerts, warnings broadcast on LCD screens across both campuses, website alerts, and email. The sirens, which are rated at 130 decibels, will be audible well beyond the boundaries of the Monroe Park and MCV Campuses. In a real emergency, the sirens will sound to signal that an immediate, life-threatening emergency has occurred or is imminent.
