You’re invited to an open house art extravaganza of epic proportion, hosted at the Jackson Ward loft space of Vicki Bruner on Saturday, November 11. The dazzling array of exhibitors will include foust, Kim Young, Jonnie Kinney, Danny Finny, Vicki Bruner, Lynne Sward, Angie Wiggins, Cris Pool, Robert Young, Clifford Earl, and Joni Ulman Lewis. Sectors 412 and 413 reports for October

Lieutenant Lisa Drew reports “another great month for Sector 413 and thanks to the cooperation of our community - crime is continuing to go down! Violent Crime was down 50% this month. We are still continuing to have a problem with property crimes (mainly thefts from autos) but even property crime was down 6%. I dream of a Richmond…
Gallery5 and T.O.W.A.R are seeking photography for a public campaign to reflect and address the concerns of the Richmond community. They are requesting submissions of portrait photography accompanied by a quote from the individual in the photo. The quote should be prompted by the phrase “I dream of a Richmond…” and express that person’s vision for a better community.

Joseph L. Williams, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Consolidated Bank is on a mission to get Maggie Walker’s portrait on a U.S. postage stamp. Walker, the first black female bank president in the U.S. and the daughter of a freed slave, was the founder and president of Consolidated’s predecessor bank. [via]

bird in Carver darkens much of the city
An estimated 5,200 customers in the downtown Richmond area are without power as a result of an outage at the Carver Substation that occurred at 1:30PM today when a bird that flew into a transformer. [via]
