Downtown Plan meeting Tues for Broad & Jackson Ward

The fourth of the recently announced neighborhood-level Downtown Plan meetings is scheduled for Tuesday for Broad Street and Jackson Ward. The meeting will be at The Jackson Center Building/DHCD Board Room (501 North 2nd Street) from 6-8PM.

Wallace and Palma @ Transmission through 2/29
Richmond’s newest print publication Urge has a fairly indepth review of Ryan Wallace and Monica Palma’s current show at Transmission:
Transmission, a relatively new gallery in Jackson Ward, is an intimate space sporting the monoprints of Ryan Wallace and drawings of Monica Palma in a show called .Medium Love (February 1-29th). This exhibit forsakes color and museum-scale dimensions in favor of process and draftsmanship.

The 4th of 6 scheduled neighborhood-specific meetings on the Downtown Plan took place tonight at The Jackson Center Building (501 North 2nd Street). The 2-hour meeting included an overview of the process so far, the plan as it pertains to Broad Street and Jackson Ward, and a lively Q&A session.

Gallery5 seeks donations for birthday bash
Gallery5 is seeking donations of artwork/crafts/jewelry/services to raise funds at Gallery5 and RVA’s three year anniversary party set for April 4th. fast busses are not street cars
The most recent edition of richmond.com’s Ask the Mayor includes a question for Mayor Wilder from Ben Wright of Jackson Ward: “With all this talk about the new Master Plan, I would like to know what your feelings are about putting the street car system back in place?”

parking regulations for Carver
Due to the limited on-street parking in the Carver District, Ordinance No. 2007-251-209 was passed in September of 2007 to require residents and guests of the neighborhood to obtain a permit to park on several streets in this area. Parking on the restricted streets without a permit is limited to 1 hour from 7AM to 10PM, Monday through Saturday. A Carver District Parking Decal is required to park in excess of 1 hour during these times. Find out more >>

shooting on First Street
A man was shot shot to death near the intersection of First and Charity Streets at around 4PM this afternoon. Police were looking for a Blue Ford Taurus in connection with the slaying. [via]

form-based code presentation & seminar
The City of Richmond Planning Commission invites interested members of the public to participate in a seminar on Form-Based Code on Wednesday, March 12, 2008 @6PM at City Council Chambers at City Hall. Form-Based Code is a type of zoning that regulates patterns of development by focusing on the relationship of buildings to each other and the street. The seminar will include presentations on the legal and practical aspects of this type of zoning. The presenters include Dan Slone with McGuire Woods LLP and Geoffrey Ferrell with Ferrell Madden Lewis LLC.

police/citizen walk-throughs set for Saturday
A series of neighborhood walk-throughs have been set for this Saturday, as part of the police department effort to identify citizen concerns about the area. Representatives from Sectors 412 and 413 will accompany citizens on a tour of potentially troubled areas. Sector 412 will meet at 9AM at 2910 North Avenue, Sector 413 will meet at 9:30AM at Second and Marshall Streets. Once problems have been identified, including crime and environmental issues that could contribute to crime, the sector lieutenants and officers will develop action plans to address the problems and resolve them within a specified time period.
