drypoint workshop by Art On Wheels
A printmaking technique developed during the Middle Ages from the metalworking techniques of goldsmiths and armorers, drypoint was used by some of the most famous printmakers in history, including Rembrandt, Durer, and Goya. This technique evolved into etching, a highly regarded process still used today. In this class by Art On Wheels, students will create their own drypoint. To sign up for this workshop go to Gallery5 or info@artonwheels-va.org. Saturday, 3/22, 1-4PM $15. Materials provided.

about that sidewalk on Kinney Street…
This week’s edition of richmond.com’s Why Richmond, Why?!? looks into what it takes to get resolution to citizen requests for a sidewalk on the 800 block of Kinney Street.
From the article:
New sidewalk requests are prioritized based on how they would best serve pedestrians in the city and then built when funding is available. There are currently more than 90 open requests that would cost more than $7 million to build.
The 800 block of Kinney Street is prioritized in the top quarter of open sidewalk requests and would cost approximately $100,000. The high cost would come from dealing with trees and a steep land bank in the construction area. The sidewalk may be constructed in the next fiscal year, which begins on July 1 and goes through June 2009, depending on the priority of other requests and the availability of funds.

mark your calendar: Broad Appetit is coming

It is true, as the804.com says, that it seems like there is some kind of food festival in Richmond every month but that there is no one of them that really stands above the rest. This is set to change, though, with this year’s First Annual Broad Appetit Food and Art Celebration which will take over Broad Street between Adams and Monroe on Sunday, May 18th.
