Pantele launches bid for mayor
As called by the Free Press 3 weeks ago, 2nd District Representative and City Council President William Pantele used last night’s fund raising event to announce his candidacy for mayor:
“I want to fulfill the promise of this great capital city,” he said. “Five years ago, we were frustrated by the poorly-run government, the poor ethics and the city was not reaching its potential so we moved to an elected mayor form of government to put aside politics, unify the region and realize those dreams. Today, we’re still unfulfilled. [via]

…and five years ago he was a city councilman in a position to affect change….so whats been done Bill?
Speaking of change, go to http://richmond.k12.va.us/ and click on the online “Take the Superintendent Search - Public Hearing Community Survey.” It only takes a few minutes.

Here is a link (below) to the Virginia Public Access Project’s page on Bill Pantele’s campaign contributors.

Count the CenterStage/VAPAF board members who got their long-term taxpayer-funded real estate deal shoved through council by Pantele (they were also awarded protected FOIA status and the keys to the city’s performing arts theatres for decades) — Brad Armstrong, the Ukrops, John Bates, Booty Armstrong, Bob Mooney and more.
Also count the the big developers. “R3 Development” and “U.S. Property Development Corp.” are responsible for the controversial Echo Harbor project that would severely limit public access of, and views to, the James River.
There’s more: “Historic Housing LLC” is a company affiliated with Louis Salomonsky, who some may recall was sent to prison for bribing former councilwoman Gwen Hedgepeth to vote for Pantele as Mayor back in the days when Council chose the mayor from within its ranks (this sleazy chapter in Richmond’s history is one of the reasons cited for why we needed to start directly electing our mayor).
This guy has the nerve to talk about “poor ethics”?
Was Pantele for an elected mayor? I know Goldman was. I remember seeing Goldman down at the 17th farmers’ market collecting signatures for a Mayor at Large.
Don, do you have any interesting information on the other candidates?
Stay tuned, Gray. We’re working on something on the Mayor’s race for Save Richmond.
Pantele’s stand on Echo Harbor alone prohibits my vote.
I look forward to reading it, Don.
