2nd Street Festival

The 2nd Street Festival returns for the 19th year Oct. 3-5, 2008, to celebrate the rich culture of the historic Jackson Ward neighborhood. Highlights of this year’s event are a Saturday evening performance by Pieces of a Dream, an R&B/Jazz fusion group from Philadelphia. Also, on Friday, October 3, the hugely popular Friday night kick-off party returns with Johnny Houston and the Legends, as well as an unveiling of a specially-commissioned painting by renowned artist Larry “Poncho” Brown. Venture Richmond commissioned the artwork in celebration of the Festival, and it will be re-produced in the form of posters for sale at the event. As part of the popular First Fridays Artwalk, the unveiling will take place at the Metropolitan Business League.
Black Dolphin Dive Club meeting

Membership in the Black Dolphin Dive Club is open to all regardless of race, religion, ethic origin, sex, or handicap. We accept certified divers, people looking to get certified, as well as people interested in learning how to swim and scuba dive.
Monthly meetings on the first Saturday of every month at the Calhoun Center.

2nd District Candidates’ Forum

The Rosedale Civic Association is sponsoring a forum for the 2nd District at The Hermitage. Invited are City Council candidates Charles Samuels and Tyron Bey, and School Board candidates Kim Gray and Lisa Dawson have also been invited. Please come with your questions for the candidates. Refreshments will be served.

HJWA Clean-Up Day

Meet in Abner Clay Park at the corner of W. Clay St. and Brook Rd.
Time: 8:00 am (Latecomers are always welcome too)
Bring: Picker-uppers and gloves if you have them. They will be provided for those who don’t. Wear your red HJWA Clean-up Day t-shirt or one will be provided for new folks upon arrival. Refreshments, coffee and water will be provided throughout the event.
