Police shooting at Broad & Laurel
Broad Street is closed from Harrison to Belvidere after a police shooting early this morning. A man is in serious condition at VCU Medical Center after being shot by the police after a traffic stop went awry. CBS6 is reporting that “the suspect did have a weapon when he charged the officers. [via]
Update from the RPD 6:50AM:
At approximately 2:27 a.m., a Richmond Police Officer made a traffic stop in the 800 block of West Broad Street. As backup units arrived to assist the initial officer, the driver of the stopped vehicle charged at the officers with a weapon.
The officers discharged their weapons and struck the male driver several times. He was transported to VCU Medical Center with serious injuries.
This investigation is ongoing and further details will be released later today.
Travel Advisory:
East and West bound travel lanes on Broad Street from Belvidere Street to Shafer Street will be closed for several hours as police continue their investigation.

The motorist has been identified as Nathan Randolph, 55. He has been charged with attempted capital murder of a police officer.
