Take a Stroll Through Shockoe Hill Cemetery
Richmond’s oldest city-owned cemetery is undergoing a renaissance, and its friends want to reintroduce the all-but-forgotten burial ground – and its many stories – to the region. The Friends of Shockoe Hill Cemetery, a citizen’s group devoted to helping restore and maintain the city landmark, will host a special celebration for the public at the cemetery on Sunday, September 20, from Noon to 4:00 p.m. Special tours beginning at 1:00 will focus on themes such as the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, Edgar Allen Poe’s lovers and friends, and the other notables buried there, including Chief Justice John Marshall. Noted bagpipe artist Tim Batten of Hanover will perform at 12:30, and refreshments will be served.

Interested in helping out?
We know that this site isn’t as good as it could be or should be. CJWN, right now, is a community blog that is published by people that do not live in the community. WE DESPERATELY NEED someone whose daily adventure puts them in direct living contact with the details of the area to step up and help contribute to the site.

Parking lot at 2nd and Marshall has a future
The city-owned parking lot at 2nd and Marshall could be a multi-story multi-use building inside of 2 years:
The panel recommends a four- to five-story building with commercial retail on the bottom and a hotel or condos on top. An idea Tracy Hart hopes could help her fledging restaurant, Leones.
“I think that would be good for the area, it would bring business to our restaurants as well as the other restaurants in the area,” Hart said.
