Busang’s Richmond

American realist painter Brett Busang has taken stock of the urban architecture of Richmond for some years now. His late 1990s/early 2000s images of Carver and Jackson Ward caught the neighborhoods at a particular moment and yet are timeless.

It is true, as the804.com says, that it seems like there is some kind of food festival in Richmond every month but that there is no one of them that really stands above the rest. This is set to change, though, with this year’s First Annual Broad Appetit Food and Art Celebration which will take over Broad Street between Adams and Monroe on Sunday, May 18th.

drypoint workshop by Art On Wheels
A printmaking technique developed during the Middle Ages from the metalworking techniques of goldsmiths and armorers, drypoint was used by some of the most famous printmakers in history, including Rembrandt, Durer, and Goya. This technique evolved into etching, a highly regarded process still used today. In this class by Art On Wheels, students will create their own drypoint. The current show (through 3/31) at the gallery is Transmission Introduces Studio 23, an exhibit of “traditional and nontraditional printing methods, etchings, silkscreens and monoprints” featuring the artists of Studio 23, a nonprofit artists’ collective.
