ACDC student arrested for weapon
A student at the Adult Career Development Center was arrested today for bringing a weapon to school. A security officer found the weapon after stopping a fight between two students. [via]

Roe convicted in Simms shooting
Preston Darnell Roe (of the 1200 block of St. James Street) was convicted of being an accessory to murder for his part in the Dec.6, 2005, shooting of Jerald Demond Simms in 2000 block of Moore Street in Newtowne West. [via]

suspected robber apprehended
Police have arrested a suspected robber, Ratome Webster, 17, and are charging him with robbery and malicious wounding after an incident along St. John Street last Tuesday morning. [via]

Lt.Ladin promoted, moving
As part of a series of promotions within the Richmond Police Department, Sector 413 Lt. Gary Ladin will become captain of the 1st Precinct. Lt.Ladin has been great at communicating with the community via his monthly sector reports and presence at association meetings. [via]

From Style Weekly’s Arrest Quota in Gilpin Angers ACLU: “In Richmond’s Gilpin Court public housing project, the magic number is 24, according to an April 12 internal police e-mail leaked to Style Weekly. The memo’s raising new questions about the use of arrest quotas within the Richmond Police Department.”

McLean sentenced in Patterson murder
Andre M. McLean was sentenced to 25 years in prison yesterday for his part in the murder of Melvin D. Patterson in his Jackson Ward home in October. McLean’s wife, Genesis Astra Saunders-McLean, had earlir recieved a sentence of 31 years in prison on the same murder charge. Richmond Circuit Judge Bradley B. Cavedo found her guilty and on April 18 sentenced her to 31 years in prison. [via]

fatal shooting at 2nd & Hill Streets
Jerry Miles, 56, of the 3100 block of Third Avenue, was fatally shot just before midnight last night at 3rd and Hill Streets. Richmond Police are looking for Verdon Taylor, described as 5 feet, six inches tall, 166 pounds., and with a shaved head. [via]
