Who is to blame for Eggleston collapse?
The RTD is digging into the pile of blame for the collapse of the Eggleston Hotel this past Saturday. The city lays the collapse on the owners’ for not taking action despite the urging of city official for years. The building’s owner, Neverett A. Eggleston Jr., sees it differently, saying that
the city shares the blame, along with financial institutions that he says make it hard for black-owned businesses to get financing for construction and renovation projects.
“The fault can be either way, either us or the city,” said Eggleston, whose father, Neverett A. Eggleston Sr., took over the hotel at the corner of Leigh and Second streets in the 1930s. “For me, and us as a race, just finding financing for anything is holy hell.”

The Church Of Crystal Light at 3 months
Style Weekly turns their great lidless eye to Adams Street’s most garish music&art space, The Church Of Crystal Light:
Richmond has a long history of house shows, those venerable old homes rented to the young and music-savvy, who open their doors to traveling bands and the audiences who come to see them. These places are often passed down through generations of renters, and this is in fact how the Church of Crystal Light began.

the lost neighborhood of Navy Hill

The VCU Library’s Special Collection’s set of pages for Navy Hill is the only online resource that is readily available on this disappeared slice of Richmond:
If you are familiar with the history of Richmond, Virginia, you may be well acquainted with its historic neighborhoods, including Church Hill, Jackson Ward, and the Fan District. But are you familiar with Navy Hill? The Navy Hill section in the city of Richmond was located between 3rd and 10th Streets (within the boudaries of Jackson Ward) and ran just north of Leigh Street all the way to Shockoe Cemetery. Largely demolished in the 1960s, Navy Hill was once a vast and eclectic collection of houses, schools, businesses, and churches.

GET YOUR WAR ON! David Rees book signing and reading tonight @ Gallery5
David Rees of GET YOUR WAR ON fame will read at Gallery5 @7PM tonight. FREE.
“Not your traditional comic.”
That’s how most comic fans might describe the comic strip Get Your War On at first glance. But it’s funny – the kind of humor that makes you think. The strip combines some stereotypical clip art with some vitriolic talk grown out of years listening to rap music. The strips are political, definitely, and sometimes break the boundaries of what you’d expect from comics.
