Sectors 412 and 413 reports for October

Lieutenant Lisa Drew reports “another great month for Sector 413 and thanks to the cooperation of our community - crime is continuing to go down! Violent Crime was down 50% this month. We are still continuing to have a problem with property crimes (mainly thefts from autos) but even property crime was down 6%. After linking to the cache of photos from the 1990s, photogrpaher F33 was able to identify a set of abandoned houses in Carver and provide us a more recent photo, towards a great then&now set of photos of a renovation on Bowe Street.

The Virginia Film Office has a location library of shots with panoramas from around the neighborhood from what appears to be the early 1990s. Local images are also included in the set Slums of Richmond…

new houses at Harrison and Leigh
We’ve heard that the new construction at Harrison and Leigh Streets will end up totaling around 15 houses, with the buildings themselves being 2 or 3 house units.

A look back at the great Style Weekly article Conspiracy Theory about Operation Crackdown, “an innovative drug-conspiracy case that resulted in the indictment of 21 drug dealers, cleared at least two homicides and did much to clean up crime-plagued Carver”, makes the point that the area has really gotten into a new place these past few years.

parking stickers coming to Carver
VCU’s Commonwealth Times has confirmed earlier reportsthat starting in January parking decals will be required to park in Carver for more than an hour. In an attempt to cut down on VCU-related parking congestion in the neighborhood, only vehicles with one of the $25 resident decals will be able to park on the street for more than an hour between 7AM and 10PM.

Carver-VCU seeks volunteers, supplies
The Carver-VCU Partnership is seeking helpful and friendly volunteers for the Carver-VCU Partnership After School Program. They especially need volunteers with skills in foreign languages, math, and science for the homework assistance and tutoring lab.
