Sectors 412 and 413 reports for October

Lieutenant Lisa Drew reports “another great month for Sector 413 and thanks to the cooperation of our community - crime is continuing to go down! Violent Crime was down 50% this month. We are still continuing to have a problem with property crimes (mainly thefts from autos) but even property crime was down 6%. senior housing coming to Leigh Street
richmond.com’s popular Ask the Mayor this week answers the question “Are there any plans for a senior apartment complex in the Downtown area?”, saying that “the former school complex at 21 East Leigh Street is being redeveloped into an independent-living senior community”. (UPDATED)

Wilder’s cancelled Gilpin meeting
Mayor L. Douglas Wilder recently canceled a town hall meeting in Gilpin Court, the city’s largest public housing project, where he was expected to unveil plans for the revitalization of Gilpin, Fay Towers and North Jackson Ward. A 2006 plan recommends a new magnet school, mixed-use zoning, and a new 2nd Street bridge. [via]
