Sylvia Place approved, Samuels has it both ways
The proposal for Sylvia Place passed unanimously at last night’s city council meeting. The RTD has at least twice noted that Second District Councilman Charles R. Samuels abstained from voting on this “because his wife had done legal work for Carver residents on the Sylvia Place proposal”, but fails to mention that Samuels has also received money from the developers of the project. Where is the conflict, exactly?

Lombardy Street development before Council on Monday
The RTD has a piece on CACIL’s fight against the proposed Sylvia Place development on Lombardy Street:
Charleen Baylor, president of the Carver Area Civic Improvement League, [...] said the influx of students in VCU and privately-owned rental units has challenged the improvement efforts and could undermine them further unless the Sylvia Place developers can guarantee owner-occupancy. “We want people in our neighborhood who are going to care about the neighborhood,” said Baylor, who moved to Carver six years ago.

The development is scheduled to be considered tomorrow by the City Council.
The council’s land-use committee voted 2-0 last week to endorse a special-use permit for the project. The 1.3-acre site was mostly recently used for metal fabrication and is across North Lombardy from the Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School.

Richmond real estate blog Rapport has some info on today’s sale of the 1.3 acres of 1011 North Lombardy (across from MLWGS) for a cool $550,000.
